“Many questions and no answers. Soon we understood that it will be difficult to leave the city”

On the 24th of February at 5 in the morning I was awakened by heavy explosions. I have never heard explosions before but I have guessed that it is the war that has started. We didn’t know what to do. We didn’t know why our country was attacked, why everything is destroyed, what will happen? Many questions and no answers. Soon we understood that it will be difficult to leave the city, because of traffic and all the chaos, most people have also tried to leave the city. My relative who lives in Sweden insisted that we come here and bought us tickets on a train to Poland. The next day, through congestion and crowds, we boarded the train. There were so many people on the train that in a compartment, which is for 3-4 people, 8-10 went, people were everywhere – in the corridors, in the tambours. As a state of war was declared in the country, the husband and son were not allowed to leave the country and they stayed in Kyiv. We landed in Stockholm where we were met by our relatives. The Swedish Migration Agency has placed us in Härnösand.
